COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Next week, three area blood drives will take place in Rock Springs to honor local first responders after a February accident that injured 18 and took 3 lives—donations will be accepted Monday at the Bunning Freight Station from 1 to 7 p.m., Tuesday at the Green River High School gymnasium from 2 to 7 p.m., and Wednesday at the Farson-Eden Community Center from 2 to 7 p.m.—appointments are still being accepted.  Wyo4News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Broadway Theater named Danielle Salas its new Marketing, Events & Theater Coordinator, and she comes from Green River—she brings strong skills in event planning and social media. She previously served on the Purchasing and Placement Committee for the Green River Arts Council and as an assistant golf coach—experiences that highlight her commitment to the arts.  Wyo4News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sweetwater County School District No. Two held its special session on March 18th at 6:00 p.m. to announce the new Superintendent of Schools — the Board considered candidates from Green River, Grand Junction, and New Jersey after Craig Barringer retired after serving since 2020.  Wyo4News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport is seeking local volunteers for a mass casualty emergency response drill on April 12 at 10:00 a.m.—volunteers must sign up online by April 4 and arrive by 7:00 a.m. The drill will use roles such as victims, onlookers and emergency callers as required by FAA and TSA regulations—helping local agencies prepare for worst-case events.  Wyo4News
  • On March 18th, the Rock Springs City Council met at 7 p.m. and held the second reading of an ordinance to let residents raise chickens while reviewing a budget that allocated over $800,000 in new revenue—roughly $221,000 earmarked for the sewer fund. Meanwhile, the Green River Council considered a permit application for water treatment changes and recognized the retirement of Police Captain Brad Hall.  Wyo4News
  • Wyoming lawmakers approved a plan to fund wildfire recovery efforts with $49 million in grants and $25 million in loans, covering a bit more than half of Gov. Gordon’s $130 million request. The grants will help special districts restore grasses and stop cheatgrass while officials expect proposals by April 1 and small businesses can borrow up to $750,000 starting July 1 — a program aimed at aiding landowners after last year’s wildfires.  WyoFile
  • A federal appellate panel ruled Tuesday that four hunters may cross public lands in Wyoming’s checkerboard area as long as they do not touch private property — a decision that keeps access open on millions of acres across the West.  WyoFile

  • Mariah Pacheco joined the pediatric clinic at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County as its third nurse practitioner—her addition is set to help care for local children.  Rocket Miner

SPORTS NEWS

  • Area basketball players were named to the 4A and 3A All-Conference teams on March 18th. Green River’s Sophia Arnold, Isabel Vasco, and Nicole Wilson joined by Rock Springs’ Emmas Asay earned 4A honors—Vasco was named 4A West Player of the Year and Wilson was honored as Defensive Player of the Year while players from Lyman, Mountain View, and the Tigers were recognized on the 3A teams.  Wyo4News
