  • Downtown Rock Springs celebrated the Downtown First Awards on May 7th, 2025 as businesses and community leaders were honored for their efforts in revitalizing the city center—recipients included It’s All in the Details Boutique, Casa Chavez Mexican Restaurant, Whiskey Goats Outdoor Co., Eric F. Philips Law Office, Nicole Hartford and Bill Ruoff.  Wyo4News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • At the Next Frontier Energy Summit in Laramie on May 6, Gov. Mark Gordon told 350 energy innovators that Wyoming is set to boost investments in nuclear power and low‑carbon fossil fuels — spurred by new federal policies and industry partnerships. Utility executives explained plans to convert coal-burning units near Rock Springs to natural gas and to explore carbon capture retrofits as part of the state’s energy transition.  WyoFile

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Yesterday, Western Wyoming Community College held its HSEC ceremony at 6 p.m. in the school’s theater where 68 students received their high school equivalency certificates — Western President Kirk Young spoke. The college will host its Nurse Pinning Ceremony at 1 p.m. and its student commencement at 5 p.m. on Friday in the theater and Rushmore Gym.  Wyo4News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wyoming voters will soon need to show proof of residency and U.S. citizenship when registering to vote after the law takes effect on July 1 — the public comment period is open until June 20 and a public hearing is set for June 4 at 3 p.m. at the Capitol Extension Conference Center Auditorium in Cheyenne.  WyoFile
  • Rock Springs City Council tabled plans to close the civic center on May 6 after many residents filled City Hall to oppose the move—officials said they would revisit the issue soon.  Rocket Miner
  • Federal public land managers face fewer workers and lower budgets due to DOGE cuts—private groups and nonprofits are set to help keep trails and recreation sites running as visitor numbers grow. This summer, some groups will hire former staff to work on critical projects and maintain services on public lands.  WyoFile
