Due to the federal government shutdown, the Department of Family Services has paused new applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program—only 1,168 households have been approved for winter heating support until May, much lower than the 8,236 households helped last season. Applicants are asked to submit their forms now so they can be processed promptly once federal funding resumes as winter temperatures drop.
